Games won't be 4k natively. If anything they will be up scaled. 4K TVs won't be sensible priced for atleast 18months into the PS4s life IMO.

the ps3 has the old PlayStation A/V out and works on a black and white 14" and so will the ps4.

need is a strong word, it will deliver some 4k content that's almost certain but you will not "need" a 4k tv.

they have only said videos can be 4k I think so far, and that might only be digital downloads, I suspect they still do not know as the consortiums have not yet agreed anything.

Someone had to say it... I'll be the punching bag!

Edit: Who watches CSI anymore? Sherlock on BBC ruined any sort of crime scene investigator shows for me.

Be careful though. Infracting him could be classed as bullying. ;)

Mmm I'm just perusing the infraction checklist and sure enough found the following:

    "Openly admits to watching CSI"

I'm afraid that carries a penalty of an 8 month ban SB. ;)

They did mention 4k gaming could be coming in the future, but I'll believe it when I see it.

4K gaming is coming to PS4... at some stage | Stuff magazine

Wont see mainstream 4k native content for a long time im guessing as the file size for these are madness and no media even bluray has enuf space for a normal length movie. There's no set standard as yet anyway and compression would have to huge to get them on a BD rom.
Remember reading about the first available native 4k projector not long ago and Sony delivered two 3min raw 4k videos on a whole pc for test purposes, and raw 4k files would need over 100 50GB blurays to fit a 2 hour movie.

raw footage never gets to a consumer, in fact I suspect that indeterminate codecs are even used for editing to reduce the file sizes.

HD-DVD delivered very nice results at 25GB (some sneeked past this to 28GB but are inclusive of extras) at 1080p, now the new codec is twice as efficient apparently so as 4K is 4X the size (pixel wise) which makes 50GB. Not all will fit at the same effective bitrate but I think if there was no extras on the disk (2 disk special editions are the norm as a sales ploy anyhow) its possible to get some good content on a 50GB Disk but its pushing it but perfectly possible as proved by HD-DVD, I have no idea what extras where on the HD-DVDs so all the data may not have been for the feature releasing some extra space.

It would make far more sense to jump to 100GB BR disks if possible for 4K but not impossible at 50GB.

Gaming wise we will not see anything but psn 2d download titles in native 4K i suspect, they say in the future which could mean PS5 as much as it means well into the PS4 generation, but as there is no fixed standards atm its hard for them to comment as even as consortium members they do not control what happens.

I am sure they will want the PS4 to play 4K content and might even trigger specific versions just for the PS5, there where some PS2 specific DVD releases I recall, or ones released to fix issues the PS2 had with the first release. Sony after all do publish themselves so its not out the question.
