My man cave is nearly complete and speakers are on order but the lack of available AVR stock is causing issues finding an HDMI 2.1 AVR.

In the meantime I'm looking for any 4k HDR compatible AVR to get everything running to a decent level and will look to upgrade in a couple of years.

Ideally would be at least 7 channels and handle Atmos as well.

Any help appreciated!

Hi,

please check out my FOR SALE link below:

This Marantz AVR would meet your requests.

It runs 4K HDR, including Sky Q without any problems.

many thanks

Don’t believe that the Yamaha will pass 4K HDR from Sky Q ,as it is not HLG compatible.

I used to own a Yamaha RX-A3080 and that is why I sold it and bought a Marantz AVR.

thanks

No, I don’t believe it can I’m afraid. Only option would be Sky Q to TV then audio over ARC to AV amp. You’d get DD+ with Atmos over ARC if that’s what Sky Q delivers, assuming your TV supports that.

Actually yes, Dolby Digital+ through ARC, but not Dolby Atmos as this requires eARC.

As long as your TV can pass through Atmos you can definitely get Dolby Digital Plus Atmos (the lossy version of DTS TrueHD Atmos). I used the Yamaha like this with Netflix, Amazon Prime and iPlayer on my LG TV’s app and it sent Atmos over ARC. You’ll need eARC if you want full fat uncompressed Dolby TrueHD Atmos from a Bluray player etc.

Have you got an AV amp at the moment?

I don't have Sky Q but do have a PS5. I know the Yamaha won't do 4k 120fps but would it do 4k HDR 60fps?

Sounds interesting but I can't find much info on that model. Do you know what video it would passthrough from PS5? 4k 60fps?

Yes, Yamaha will do 4K60p. Haven’t used it with a PS5 but use my Nvidia Shield for 4K60p movies like Gemini Man (which I particularly like the smooth action video 60fps gives).

The Marantz SR7012 will also support the PS5 at 4K 60Hz.

thanks

Thanks. They both look like decent AVR. I've literally just been told that Q1 2022 should see the stock levels backup so I know I'll want to upgrade when they are so I can't really justify that sort of money for 6 to 9 months.

OK. I am considering offers , and you could sell it on again when you upgrade.

The only thing it really lacks is the 120hz support , as it already has eARC support.

Many thanks

In case you were not aware, Marantz and Denon are the same company nowadays.

They share common Receiver and Amplifier designs and then Marantz fit upgraded audio quality components to also provide the best quality music playback.

My apologies if you already knew all of this!

thanks

Ah that makes more sense with W. Thanks. When you're ready to sell please let me know a price and I'll see if I can justify it!
I thought it was strange you were struggling to find info on the model. Turned out it was down to my bad eyesight.

Hopefully the new amp will be delivered early next week, so I will need a day or two to get it set up and tested. I would hopefully be able to get back to you by thursday/friday.

For your information, the amp comes with the remote, cal mic, AM/FM aerial and tripod. Unfortunately I don't have the printed manual (I just downloaded it) or the original box. When I take it out of the rack, I will take some photos and send to you so that you can check it out beforehand. I will be looking for £300 +p&p
