Today, Freesat sought interested parties to manufacture the next generation UHD Freesat receivers.
Currently, while today's crop of 4K televisions are capable of displaying UHD source material from a UHD player, Sky Q, or streamed from Netflix/Amazon, will the emergence of direct 4K broadcasting from Freesat or Freeview cripple (to some extent) existing 4K televisions?
Specifically, current 4K televisions have integral DVB-T2 tuners - while others have DVB-S2 tuners too. Looking into the proverbial crystal ball, will current televisions become, effectively, only '4K Broadcast Ready' in much the same way as some past televisions being 'HD Ready'.
Will we all have to ditch our supposedly 'future proof' 4K televisions for newer models with the latest 4K tuners on board?
