I was thinking has anyone not quite able to game at 4k with vsync on at 60hz.... Have you tried setting display to 4k 50? If you can get a locked 50fps may be better than dropping to 30.
Of course it would make things worse if you went under 50 and got forced to 25 FPS :/

Interesting, never tried that and it could be a good compromise

With AA off or low your 980ti i think you have? should do fairly well at a lot of games. with AA off in GTAV my 970 can do over over 50fps quite happily at 4k with high and very high settings and looks and plays absolutely lovely :smashin: And fps is very stable with AA off i noticed so vsync off works well (i often have that off anyway tho).

Other times with Far cry 4 i had no chance but weirdly fps was little to no different.. (30ish tops again AA off) at ultra or low settings so mayb cpu limited there?o_O

Most of the time i just stick to 1080p tho my 970 still does pretty damn well, scales really well on my 43xe8004 but gta5 was a nice surprise.

Always going to be compromises when not got the power. Think im going for 1070ti soon as would be nice for extra grunt in VR but is borderline if i can get one in my case.
