I have just taken delivery of my new Tosh and the picture is stunning. The fan however does seem quite noisy and I wasn't expecting that. I tend to not have the volume very high so I can hear the fan and I would even go as far to say that it is intrusive with the volume low. Is this normal?, in which case I guess I will have to learn to live with it, or do others that have this TV find it runs very quietly?

    Thanks for you advice

Unfortunately these sets need a fan to cool the bulb so the noise you are experiancing is normal. You might be unlucky and have a noisey fan in which case I would contact Tosh. Fans get swapped out on front pros as they can go after a while. This happened to my father recently.

I too noticed the fan noise when I got my RD65, however I am used to it now. :)

BTW I have wooden floors which do amplify the noise as the RD65 sits on the floor and not a stand as your Tosh does.

I hope this helps you out a bit and welcome to the forums :smashin:

I've had several different DLP's and the Tosh is the quietest I've had, I really can't hear it at all.

Yeah welcome and yeah it is normal. I have mine in a corner on wodden floor which seems to amp it more so. As razor said it is the look of the draw and can be lower on different sets.

I initially had mine on a carpeted floor and then bought a stand. It is more noticeable now it is on the stand. It seems to me that is is audible when I start the TV (with no other noise going through) but once warm (with or without TV sound playing), the noise goes away. ( or perhaps I go selectively deaf??)

    Cheers
    Sagem HD-D50 (still)

I had the 46WM48P for a little over 4 months - i never heard the fan when watching movies no matter how low the volume. The only time i ever heard the fan was late at night when all other electrics in the house were switched off - with the TV still on but volume turned right down. And come to think of it - i've never heard the fan on my Sammy - not even late at night. Maybe the fan on the Sammy is an optional extra  :D

I have the 52wm48p on the standard stand, which is on carpet. The noise of the fan is very low and is only noticeable when all other noise in the house has stopped. ie last thing at night. I suspect that the noise would be more obvious in a wood floored room, which does tend to accentuate the higher pitched sounds.

My fan on my pc is louder than my TV fan. I can also hear my HDD on my sky plus sometimes.

To be honest for 65' of screen i can live with a little bit of fan noise and as i said in my previous post I dont really hear it now. :smashin:

My next project will be a near silent HTPC

    Elephant Man

Im on my 3rd sky plus box. They always break down out of warranty.

    - First one went on its 13th month,
    - 2nd unit was a recon swapped by sky and had a 3 month guarantee. Failed on the 4th month.
    - 3rd unit is only a month old so Im not taking any bets. If this one goes I will leave it untill SKY HD comes out.

Razor - are you going selectively deaf too;) or do you think that the fan noise only seems to whirr for the initial period of operation and then once the screen warms up, it subsides. I am sure that is my experience on the Sagem. I would certianly rate the Optoma I saw demoed as louder but again only on initial start up as I failed to notice after that.

    Cheers

    LOL....

The noise at start up does seem louder, your right there.

I have sound proofed my lounge so I usualy have the volume quiet loud

On my demo of the set I never noticed the fan noise, it was only after a few hours viewing that I noticed it. This was on the silent scence's only. It was a shock at the begining but I am used to front pros. They do the same only louder as they have a smaller case and the front pro is normally positioned nearer your head than a rear pro. Plasma's also have fans. It would be ideal if no fans were needed for any of these technologies. Although it is very expensive you can get silent PC/HTPC's.

My pc annoys me far more than my tv does.

    Mrmoo :hiya:

I never did turn it off :(

The service engineer said the Sky + boxes were always failing. Most of the time it was the hard drive. I had a panasonic sky digital box for over 5 years with no problems.
