I have a few rigs here, but they are all noisy beasts and obviously arnt suitable for HTPC purposes as they are a massive distraction.

The pc would be used for Playing videos and sky thru an input board using Dscaler, also playing DVD's via power dvd 4 deluxe and also some divx movie files (dl's off the net)

Just wondering if you lot reccon an old 450 katmai would handle it? (it can do 504mhz if necessary but the plan was to keep this machine passively cooled)

    Thanks

    Hello Simon,

For Dscaler you really need a PC with much more than 450Mhz.

If you are going to build one, I would say a P3 1 Gig, or a Celeron 1.2 Gig, on an Asus TUS series motherboard, as the minimum these days.

It's just not worth larking around with something old and slow, unless you have lots of patience and time.

    Good luck,

    Mark G.
