I need a 42" plasma for a boardroom installation, the screen will only ever be used for powerpoint type presentations so it is the PQ with VGA input that is key here. Must be screen only - no tuners, speakers etc and support WXGA.

Does anyone want to offer any suggestions to shortlist please.

    NEC XM3 :rotfl:
thats pretty much it unless you look at ALIS
in which case a Fujitsu HCA30 may be ideal and as 40 series are about to land pick one up cheap.....
What sort of budget? as the top 3 are all about £2.5k inc VAT and are 1024x768 res although are 16:9 panels

Cheers for another amazingly quick reply HD

Budget is not really an issue, it's more a case of getting "best value".

From the Megatest I know you hold the Panny in high regard, and it certainly seems to fit the bill here.

Not seen the Fuji's before, any known issues worth noting and does ALIS need taking into account?

Fuji's main advantage is rock solid warranty, other wise I'd leave Alis alone for your use. You'll be wanting video and PC inputs I take it? and of course a switching system for it all, and top picture to look smart in the boardroom. Have you tried Joe at the Media Factory? Edinburgh based co., very knowledgeable and very used to that kind of install. www.tmfsolutions.co.uk

Just re read the top post, sorry. I can't believe you would not want the lot, seems a shame to spoil the ship for a hap'orth of tar, every boardroom runs DVD and videotape presentations too down south, I have never installed a 'PC only' plasma in any boardroom.

    Thanks MAW.

The picture quality is more of an issue than warranty, so it looks like the PHD7 is favourite.

Forgot to add that I would agree about the lack of video sources, but the MD did say he didn't want the staff piling in to watch the footy etc!! That's why he's not having any speakers either. If he changes his mind later then at least they can be easily retrofitted.

Retrofitted if there is a cable route. Or if you incorporate a video scaler as a hub, that's what I usually recommend. Then you can send all your sources, including PC, up 1 VGA cable. Your boss sounds like he won't stump for it though. He's also daft not to include sound, though I would NEVER recommend side speakers, they look so tatty. You go for in ceiling speakers, I suppose you could power them from the plasma, not even particularly more expensive. If you don't at least cable for it, your upgrade path is serverely restricted.

    Hello neilball

The 'picture quality' on either the MXE1 or PHD7 from PowerPoint is not going to disappoint.

If you have a lot of ambient light the MXE1 can be a better bet for presentations - the MXE1 'fully loaded' is about the same money as an HD15(VGA) only PHD7.

    Best regards

    Joe

PS Tell the MD Retrofitting is more expensive than doing it now - potentially two visits from the install team!!!

All of my protests fell on deaf ears so he'll just have to get out his wallet again when he realises he's made a mistake :suicide:
