Looking for a new 40 inch TV and these two seem to be perhaps the best rated Which has the beter picture. Is 4k worth it on a 40 inch TV or will the standard HD have the better picture quality?

Or is there something else i should be considering up to £450 ish?

Depends on your viewing distance. Whether or not it's a 1080p or 4K set, if you are too far away to pick up the extra detail on offer you will get eye strain. This leads to the inevitable urge to get a bigger set! At least, that's what I've found! There are plenty of HD TV viewing charts in google images which can be very useful.

PS. Of course, the actual dimensions of the room in which the TV is going along with furniture placement and your own personal aesthetic taste don't always allow for the optimum screen size. Most of us view from 8-10ft and I have found a good screen size to be 48" in a typical sitting rm set up. You get a large screen TV but it doesn't completely dominate the rm. If you feel this might apply to your situation I would recommend the 48" H6400.

I was considering both of these a while back, but have held off for several reasons.

I would definitely say viewing angles are a big consideration for both sets, if you won't be sat completely face on. In reviews the H6400 seemed to come out on top between the two here. I saw both side by side in John Lewis and I'd say the viewing angles of the H6400 were better. The JU6400 appeared to handle SD (tv channel) content better, which surprised me a bit, but it was shop conditions so unlikely either set was setup optimally.

    Hope that helps a bit

From 8-10ft you need at least 55"
