Hi All,

Finally finished my cinema room project from converting the garage, figured i used this website a lot to help me build and decide my speakers etc so i thought id post my finished project along with photos of the build throughout to showcase this project and hopefully help anyone else who has decided they want to delv into this type of project themselves.

The beginning, idea.... keep some of the garage as a garage, the rest a cinema room.... this then involved me tidying my garage to the back of the garage on racking etc to keep it tidy and use the space better.

Then the framing began! To partition part of the garage of from what will be the cinema room so that i can still use it as a garage.

FRAMED!

My DIY door frame - I could have made this the proper size for a door frame etc but i knew my plan was to just have this as an opening and use a curtain to cover this door.. You may have noticed... the top part of the door frame is ON THE PISS!!!! I saw this and thought ill sort that later... lets crack on!

Wide angle view of the garage from my Samsung S10+ camera to show how 'small' the garage cinema room is.

More FRAMEINGZZZ

I built a frame in front of the garage door and used blocks to block the garage door in from being able to be open i wanted to keep it looking like a garage from outside.

The woodwork involved in creating the false / raised / ceiling bit.... will make sense further on! This was a huge pain in my @ss! Took a while and ALOT of wood to build.

I then wanted abit of a raised floor to put some floor lighting in, the idea for this came from the cinema where the steps have the lights in so you can see where your going when tha needs a piss.

I didnt want it too high or unstable so i just laid the 3 x 2 across the floor like that to raise it slightly.

AMAZING what a bit of LED strip of ebay and a raised floor can do!

It was then time to WIRE in all the speakers and also the lights... I'm a sparky by trade so this was the simple bit ;)

WE have 4 circuits.... 1 - LED Strips at top and floor ...... 2 - LED Spot Lights ...... 3 - Fibre Optic LIGHTS ..... 4 - Weird EBAY circular lights

Now was time to BOARD and INSULATE - I used sound proof insulation and sound proof plasterboard. My Garage is detached but i didnt want anyone to hear in their homes around my garage.

Who ever thought the framed ceiling drop down bit around the edge of the cinema room was a good idea when i started needs shoooooting! It sounded like such an amazing idea to start of with but JEEEZUS did it take time to build and plasterboard!

I then got a plasterer in to just plaster the ceiling part as i needed to get around the edges to put the fibre optic lights in. He plastered my boarding and then we painted the ceiling as this needed to be finished for the fibre optics.

Now was time for the DREADED fibre optic lights....... This again sounded like an amazing idea, but was so time consuming.

350.... 1mm..... Holes, all drilled by hand and fibre threaded down and into them

Each light was threaded through the 1mm hole with length left, they where then cut flush and the chipped plaster paint around was then painted to give the ceiling above..... Hard to see fibre lights.

Carpet fitter been, all speakers in..... KIDS CHAIRS arrived

these chairs are pretty awesome for kids... they where on eBay for £80...

20200501_133030.jpg

The chairs are for upto 10yrs old, they are manual recliner as in they don't have a leaver you have to pull them from the bottom. But still great quality cinema seats for your kids! At a great PRICE!

When you want to redo the room in a few years.. that's an excuse to do it ;)

THEY ARRIVED....

These seats again are GREAT... They are Swivel, Recliner, Massage, Heated... Cinema Seats,

Only thing i wish i did was think about the power for the seats, i could have run a wire under the raised flooring and add a socket under the chairs so there was no wires run...

That looks fantastic, amazing and well done on the build. I don’t think I’d have the patience for 350 lights but yeah I bet it looks really effective and pretty cool.

Thanks alot! Haha yeh it took forever but it was therapeutic 🤣

Thanks for sharing, it's a great room. Anything you'd change or do differently?

Looks great! I'm think of doing something similar, have you had any problems with the sub causing things to shake?

Great build did you not need any insulation for the room?

I would put a socket under the seats and thats probably about all i would change.... oh also i would prob have gone for cheaper speakers maybe i think the ones i got are soooooooo high quality got the size of room volume i put on -30 an its still so loud haha.

The sub was a little loud so i have turned it down in settings, at first when i put music on it vibrated the room soo much the room filled with dust from the spotlights haha

Great build did you not need any insulation for the room?

Yeah all walls are insulated with sound insulation was blaaaady expensive think £40 a roll and i needed 5 rolls! But i wanted it sound proofing

Where did you get the adult seats from? Also does it get hot in there? I have a very similar sized detached garage which I'm thinking of converting so there may be more questions :lesson:

As you are a Sparky, what do you think a charge would be for wiring your garage up, ive got a simlar project in the pipeline and wondering on a cost of say, 10 sockets, lighting (not fibre optics).

Just showed the boss this, the reply was fk off :rotfl:, excellent job mate.
