    Hi,

Just started my hunt for a plasma upgrade to my 36" CRT and was looking at 42" Pana, Pioneer and Philips. In a store today they had a 3rd Gen 50" display model which they want 4.5k for. Is this a good deal or a rip off?

    Hi,

Personally, I would wait a couple of months for the 6th gen one to arrive. £4500 is quite a lot of money for technology 3 generations old.

Aside from DVI, I don't see the series 6 being much better than the series 5, if at all.
The 100hz mode is the only worthwhile addition from what I can see and it reduces greyscale. Need to hear some info about a series 5 and 6 side-by-side comparison.

Good point, Geeseman, but I think nictry is talking about a series 3 model. They can't be worth 4.5K...

It is 'slightly' better in quite a few areas really.

Less buzzing, RGB via the VGA port, 2:2 Pal pulldown etc etc.

And I've been told that it will only have two fans instead of the four present at the moment...that can only be a good thing.

Series 5 doesnt buzz, can accept RGB via RCA in input 2 and the differences of 2:2 pulldown are debatable.
IMO, I was quite dissapointed with the differences in series 6, but what can you expect...

Last Obtober I paid £4999 for my new Panasonic 50" plasma from Sound & Vision, Bolton - and prices are still falling, so more than £2999 for ex display is not worth it.
