Finally got around to installing an Nvidia GeForce4 8X 64Mb AGP card i've had knocking around for a while. After a few teething problems with display breaking up and pixelating it seems to have settled down now after upgrading the drivers and bios from the website

I decided to run the 3DMark2001SE test which returned a score of 10551 - I thought this was pretty decent for what is quite an old card now. Am I way of the mark here or is the score acceptable ?

Just played Call of Duty with the new card and the graphics low much slicker.

Are there any good demo progs on the net to show what the card is capable of ?

    TIA,
    Mike.

Seems a decent mark to me. As a comparison I used to own an ATi Radeon 9600 and got 12728 marks in 3DMark 2001SE. That was using a 3.06 Ghz PIV. So only about 2000 marks slower for a previous generation card looks like a pretty good result.

I can't seem to get 3DMark01 to work on my computer, it says that I need to install DirectX8.1 but I'm already running DirectX9. Do I need to downgrade?

I think you just need to download the patch for it, don't downgrade your directX version.

I just done a run through on all the 3D Marks.

    2001 - 18535

The results mean you've got a faster setup than mine..........

Well that is the theory anyway, but all games are different and it isn't a simple as just that.

Thanks Gizmo, found the patch and have a score of 1413. I don't think I'll be trying the newer versions.

That's using my newish computer that I acquired a few months ago. Duron 1.2GHz, 512MB DDR RAM and 64MB PCI Voodoo 5500.

I'm tempted to try it on my other computer which is Pentium 133, 80MB EDO RAM and 16MB Voodoo 2 just to see what the difference is. I have to admit that I'm not an avid gamer. :)

Yeah, each of them were surely designed to push the graphics card/processor of that time, so like your scores are better than mine. This would surely mean your setup is overall faster than say mine. I'm running a 6600GT Card, and a AMD3.2+ Processor, only the graphics card is running slightly OC'd, but only because it has been designed to run hot.

I've yet to see a result where a card designed for the DirectX 8 era, has won in that said era over a new DirectX9 card from today.

They are going to make each edition push the new capabilities of the cards, 3D Mark '03 won't run all the tests on some DirectX 8 Cards as they don't have all the built in shaders/pixel pipes or whatever.

So the basic it fact is these program are mean't to prove you have a faster gaming setup, but like I said before it is always that simple. Certain games are designed with Nvidia in mind and their plus points, and others with ATi cards.
