I have just purchased a Panasonic 3D TV and downloaded some 3D films to my Popcorn Hour. When I watch a 3D film from the Hour through the Onkyo TX-SR805 receiver it plays in 3D perfectly fine ! Why ? Is this as I suspect that the signal passes through basically untouched ? is this a Onkyo feature only or does it apply to the other makes of older receivers ?

I suspect the 3D content you've downloaded is side by side 3D? This type of 3D signal passes through any HDMI equipped AV receiver without issue and is the type of 3D video used for 3D TV broadcasts and 3D console games. The sequential 3D video associated with 3D Blu-ray titles will not passthrough any AV receiver not equiped with a version 1.4 HDMI interface or higher. Your amp cannot passthrough sequential 3D video as used for 3D Blu-ray titles.

No, 1.4 or higher. You cannot pass sequential 3D through an HDMI version 1.3 interface. The only exception to this is the Sony PS3 which can utilise its modified HDMI version 1.3 interface to output 3D sequential video. :lesson:

GO TO YOUR ROOM AND STAY THERE! :p

Eh, this is so unfair, I am not your slave !

Ah theres a good old reference^^

Seriously tho yea 1.4 tbh is what you want even forgetting 3D as it adds ethernet, ARC, and 4k.

Of course the cable will be long gone by time 4k becomes commercially viable for home viewing. Thats why im like meh at this years Yamaha receivers. Youll want a new receiver with new features before the 4k ever comes into play.
