Getting a PE50 but am hesitating on which size. For the price difference 42" looks a better buy but at a viewing distance of 9" could be to overbearing in the room. But don't want to get a 37" and wish I'd got a 42".
Anyone regretted the size they bought?

Well I sit at just over 10 feet and think a 37" is fine. Although if it was wall mounted I'd probably move for a 42".

Pound for pound, 42" is the best value - as long as you have room for it.

I'm not really sure picking a panel-size based on best value is the best way to do it.

Personally if you can afford it I would go for the biggest size you can get within reason, and at 9' a 42" should be fine. (I run a 50" at 12-13' but can sit closer without any problems)

Get the 42" mate, you won't regret it!

You might (probably will) regret it if you get a 37".

My viewing distance is between 9' and 10', looks exactly right for the distance! :)

I bought a 37" (the wife wouldn't entertain anything bigger) and wall mounted it. While we are both blown away with how good it is I soooooo wish we had got the 42".
Its a funny thing, both me and the wife thought it looked pretty big out the box but once wall mounted it don't look so big anymore.
Get the 42", you'll enjoy it more.

Daveowen, although the 42" will initially look very big, you will find you get used to it very quickly. I would definitely go for 42" at 9 feet viewing distance. If stand mounting though, make sure on measurements first.

42" on a wall looks fine. But 42" on a cab stand, it is a room dominating monster, be warned!

I also bought a 37" plasma and must admit now that I wish I went for the 42" instead. When I first started to watch it I thought wow this is big but as time goes on you soon get used to the size and this is from about 6' away. If you can afford it and have the room, definitely go for a 42" model.

My wife had always said that we didn't really need a bigger tele than our current 28" CRT...until this week, when I cut some newspaper to size and stuck it up on the wall. She agreed that the 42" was a much better fit for the room than the 37"! :)

Now just got to sort out finance, sell the old tele etc....

Might be worthwhile making a mockup yourself (held up with masking tape or blue tack) to see the difference easily, from your normal viewing position.

The 42" PV500 looks small compared to the 42" plasma we have in our living room, its really strange I know and I cant explain why, it just looks smaller to the eye

Thanks for all your replies. We decided on the 42 but the salesman said get a 37 because a 42 would be too big, ironically he had no 37's in stock. However we value your advice on here more so despite him throwing doubt in we will stick with a 42 based on your advices.

The salesman told you to get a smaller cheaper model? That's unheard of! :D
