37" LCD recommendation for first HD TV

I have been charged with recommending a first HD TV for my parents, a 37" being what they have decided is ample and fits the available space (they are not inclined to consider a TV as the centerpiece of a living room). They will be pretty much exclusively watching SkyHD, though they may invest in a Blu-ray player before long.
My somewhat gullible father is keen on a LED set, despite what I've told him (and have made him read on the site). I think a set with In Plane Switching would be useful based on how the room is set up, so I am inclined to favour Panasonic (as is my own HDTV). Are the Panasonic sets (eg TX-L37S20, TX-L37G20 or TX-L37D25B) any good for SD content (I suspect some at least of what they watch will not be on Sky's HD channels).
