How long out of warranty is it? Can't be by much? Always worth giving microsoft a phone call, the worst they'll say is sorry no can do.

I would think Microsoft is your best option. Seeing as it's a launch machine, they may even waive the fees as they have acknowledged there are problems with early machines. I know they did for my launch day original Xbox.

Let us know what they say.

    Between £80 - £140

Glad I paid the £60 and took out the 2 year extended warranty.

Then I'd definitely go back to the retailer and get them to repair it.

I'd still try MS first even if it is out of warranty. Mine was 9 days out of warranty when it died, or at least I thought it was, but when I rang MS they didn't even question me when I asked whether I'd have to pay or not. Its worth a phone call :)
