    Hello,

I've just bought a 320gb USB2.0 Maxtor External HDD, and am trying to hook it up to my 360. I have tried formatting it entirely as FAT32 (which, I understand, is the only format the 360 recognizes), and using a combination of FAT32 and NTFS partitions, but either way it never gets recognized when I plug it into the 360. I've tried everything I can think of and drawn a blank. I am using the cable supplied, which I presume is USB2.0. Has anyone got any experience of using these drives with the 360? Am I doing it in the right format? Any tips?Any help at all would be good - thanks in advance.

try only fat 32 and partition to smaller drives maybe 320 is too big so fat 32 in 80gb each, let me know how you get along, want to buy 500gb hdd but not too sure of max recognizable hdd.

I bought a 250GB external drive the other day but the 360 didn't recognise it but I'm guessing because it was NTFS. I have a 10GB drive i've formatted as FAT32 but haven't had chance to try it yet...hopefully I'll be able to try later tonight when I get home so will let you know

Just to let you know I tried my 10GB drive last night. I only tested it quickly but it worked fine for playing mp3's

I have a 160GB drive and it works fine.

Maybe try only a FAT32 partition and see if that works

Use MacDrive to format the drive to Mac HFS+, and then there is no filesize or drive size limit. The 360 can see HFS+ drives no problem, and the MacDrive software will sit in the background on Windows to allow you to copy files to and from the drive using Windows Explorer.

I can confirm that the above method is indeed the best way to format an external drive for use on the 360. There are so many restrictions when using a fat32 drive, its just a pain in the ass

Well whaddya know - after a bit of faffing about I formatted the whole thing as HFS+ and it worked a treat. It definetly wouldn't work with FAT32 format any way I tried, but HFS+ seems like the way to go. Thanks for all your help fellas.

I have a Western Digital 320Gb My Book connected to me Xbox 360, formatted as FAT32. The Xbox has no problem recognising this hard drive. I used the WD FAT32 formatter which I downloaded from the WD website. You can only have 1 partition with this as far as I can see.

Hello, I have issues also which I would really appreciate help with, this is my Hard Drive:

    http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?ITAG=FAQ&ModuleNo=217655&doy=10m2#faq

On there FAQ page (In the link above) it said I could use the hard drive with my Xbox 360, I partitioned a 20GB FAT32 volume as I know its the only format the 360 can read yet my 360 is still not registering that theres an external USB connection yet it works fine on my PC!?

    HELP!!!:lease:
