After reading on here about needing to get my 32PF9986 'upgraded' (thanks everyone!), how long are Philips currently taking to resolve and bring it back?

The thing i don't understand is why they cannot do the upgrade 'onsite'.

I believe the upgrade is more than just software. There are a couple or three wee components involved too. The engineers probably don't fancy rattling about inside your beloved 9986 with a soldering iron with you breathing down their necks!
The upgrade has been known to take up to 11 weeks! Are you sure you need to do it? The only benefit of upgrading v1.3 is to allow component input.

They should replace the whole set then.

11 weeks! I hope not. I'm planning on keeping the set for a long time and want to make sure it can take all inputs going forward. I'll be getting sky hi-def when its launched and don't want any excuse for anything not to work!

Ohh blimey....found out mine is v1.3 as well. Do I just call Philips to get it sorted?

I'm hoping it's not going to be 11 weeks! Thanks for you help.

The 11 week thing was at the peak of the upgrade demand earlier in the year. I expect that relatively few people are getting it done now.....

    Geez....what a mission!!
So I called Flatdeal and asked them about the software upgrade, told me to call Philips who told me to call Flatdeal.

Anyways, now I've had to write an e-mail explaining the problem and it's been passed the Flatdeal's sales manager at Philips and have heard nothing back yet. All I need to do now is put on a red nose and call myself Crusty.

They have now had my TV for 4 weeks. Quite a joke. The people answering the phones seem on the ball and a bit frustrated with the actual repairers. It is a joke how long it is being held on to.

After much frustration with Philips and an apparent inability to get things sorted, I spoke to Philips head office who passed me to someone there who seems to understand customer service. They apologised for keeping my TV for 5 weeks with no updates apart from 'we are working on it'. The Philips consumer helpline was even worse - charged me 15p/minute and had no news, no way of getting news and totally useless. My opinion - never phone it. They rip you off to tell you nothing.
Anyway, the person at Philips head office sorted it. They arranged for a new screen to be sent to me directly. This arrived this morning and the people delivering it set up the whole thing - even tuning it all in and checking all the main channels.
My faith in Philips is restored - but only just....

Well, my TV is due back today but not without it's glitches.

I sent it in to get the upgrade from 1.3 to 2.5. It came back the first time with the DVI component signal working so I was happy about that but then noticed it had a green haze to all the images coming from that signal. All other signals were ok, and also noticed it had a dead pixel which wasn't there before.

I sent it back and was told that they could do nothing about the green haze as it was not displaying on their test bench so they could not replicate the problem. This may be my DVD but have to check. However, it still has the dead pixel!!! Philips will not fix it because they say up to 7 dead pixels are acceptable before they repair dead pixels under warranty.

Should I just accept this or should I play hard ball?
