    Hi,
I've just read the thread about noisy cooling fans on LG LCD's, and having just ordered a Philips 32PF9986 from John Lewis, it suddenly struck me that I hadn't checked if the Philips has cooling fans, or any other source of 'unwanted' operating noise? Does the Philips have a fan, and if so, has it caused anyone any problems with excessive noise?
    TIA

the philips doesnt have a fan (at least i cant see one sure jimmy can confirm)and most peoples are silent unless you put your ear a few inches away, however mine starts buzzing noticeably as soon as i turn the contrast under 97. I am now awaiting replacement! The amiblight does hum slightly as well but i cant hear that unless very close.

No fan - but my ambilight buzzes a little. No problems with buzzing at any contrast setting on mine (37PF9986).

If the TV is working properly, there are no noticeable sounds whatsoever. There are no fans at all. The Ambilight does fizz very quietly and the Backlight dimmer buzzes in a workmanlike way. None of this is audible to me any more than a foot or so from the TV. It seems, however that the Backlight dimmer on some models is louder than others...
