on the 9986, there is an option in the menu to toggle on or off - not sure about the 9830...

Interesting... if your's are not working either... perhaps they removed the backlights and the motion sensor.

    From the 9986 PDF manual:

    Intelligent lights
Select Yes if you want the blue lights in the keys on top of the TV to illuminate (for a few seconds) when somebody is within 1-1,5 m of the TV.
Note: As the Intelligent lights function based on reflection of moving objects, they will perform differently dependent on the environment and type/colour of clothing worn.

Don't mind if they don't on the 9830, just wann know if they are supposed to. Hey After all I got a remote control stand! Prob is I always wanted a flat screen to put on the wall!

i found it really annoying to have it one since its distracting. You have to be pretty close (2ft) to make them detect you, but when you turn lights out and watch films the ambilight sets it off every 10 seconds.

if its off the 9830 then thats only a good thing, i also hope theyve removed the bright blue LED power light from the front, that is equally as distracting.

Finally got and answer from phillips....

With regards to your query we can advise that the light on the top of
the television that had motion sensors that was a function on the 9986
has been removed and is not a feature on the 32PF9830/10.

least I know it's not broken!
