Hi all,
Newbie here - Seeking help & any advice, would be grateful.
TV - LG 32'' 5700 (1080p)
Old vigin cable box - No HDMI oulets.
Connection - Half decend scart kead.
Problem - Picture aint no-where near as good as expected.
Done a bit of tweaking with the settings, but the results are nothing special.
Does a scart lead upscale the SD picture?
My understanding - once upgraded to a V+ box & connected with HDMI cables the picture will improve alot?
So i need to upgrade my cable box to reap the capabilites of my TV?

Another point is the LG XD Engine.
On my brothers & mates "older" LG LCD's - They have the function to turn the XD engine on or off - Via the settings.
My Tv has the engine but i can't find the setting anywhere?
Is it on automatically?
or I'm a being a bit dumb?

Any help & advice would be great.

I would definitely upgrade to HDMI, should make a big difference, do you have a DTV aerial or a DVD player connected? are you happy with that image quality?

I think the XD engine is split out over the Expert mode settings on the recent LG models. in the past people just wanted a simple 'explanation' of what the TV did, in the expert mode you can control/tweak more aspects/detail of the engine.

Cheers for the quick reply.

I'm currently using the TV for a bedroom setup.
The cable box if fed from the down stairs V+ box.
So i'm prob loosing quality there?
I havn't a DVD recorder connected.
But would it help if i purchased one with a HDMI output & connected my TV via the recorder?
Thanks.

If you're distributing over RF from a cable box (I have a similar setup with Sky) the quality will be nowhere NEAR as good as if it's connected directly to the TV with even just a plain old SCART it won't make any difference to the V+ if you run it through an upscaling DVD recorder. you're better off with a straight connection (HDMI if you can) to the TV from the V box.
