the settings on this tv are starting to annoy me! no matter what combination of settings i choose,it looks normal in areas but when theres pure white background i need sunglasses to view the screen, and when watching a dark prog or movie i need nightvision! what the fudge do i have to do to get lights and darks set right?

If any of the colour, contrast, brightness, sharpness settings are higher than about half-way (50%) then you are probably over-cooking the picture. As a quick guide, try them all in the middle and subtely alter them from there - contrast and colour usually benefit from being reduced a little.
