Which 32" LCD screen is widely acknowledged as the best screen out ?

Looking for a 32" LCD screen, but whilst browsing these boards there doesn't seem to be a favorite like with plasmas the panny PW6 or Pio 434.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

    cheers

i have a sony l32mrx1 and it rocks
the phillips 32" pixel plus screen has also got good reviews and is a sound purchase.
sharp panels have always been good, and they have bought out a number 32" versions (both digital and non-digital and with/without media boxes). i haven't seen any reviews of these yet though.

ma94 - what is the response time like on the Sony. Have you watched sport on it without any problems?

i have to say that from a response perspective watching the game was fine.

however i would note that the inbuilt digital tuner is better than a sky input - sometimes with sky there is some fuzzing around players. i've also noticed that the detail on the pitch is reduced when the camera is moving (ie some of the shades of green reduce), the detail reappears when the camera stops (from a distance this is barely noticable but you can make it out up close).

the only other problem i saw on last night's arsenal match is that for some reason the brightness of the people in the crowd seemed to dip when the camera moved to follow the action. i'm not sure whether this can be improved or not by fiddling with the settings.

Loewe Xelos SL, or if money is no object, the Loewe Spheros. Retail about the same as the Sharp but you will be unlikely to find them as much discounted. Many options to choose from, like integrated harddisc recorder that can record from any source and integrated D-TV/D-SAT. More versatile then the Sharp, better build quality than the Philips and IMO, better PQ all round including native 1366x768 support! I recon that they are as good as LCD gets at present.

Currently selling (with free Loewe DVD recorder at Harrods) starting at £2999. www.loewe.de

Does anyone have a direct link on the harrods website for the Xelos?
I would like to order online, but no matter what I click, I can't bring up this product.

    Thanks

Harrods do not have a web site for anything other than brand merchandise. But they will take an order over the phone - its actually a Linn/Loewe specific stand run by staff from Linn. Unfortunately I cannot find any contact details at present. If you do order, make sure that you have know what options you want as some, ie DR+ and D-TV/D-SAT must be ordered at time of purchase.

If you are after prices for the 32" (I think 37" is £1000 more than 32") they are:
    32" SL £2999
    32" SL DR+ £3299 integrated hard drive
    D-TV/D-SAT +£260 integrated D-TV/D-SAT
Centros DVD recorder - Free until end September. Not in catalogue as I think it was only launched in September.

Delivery 2-3 weeks and it is installed by a Linn/Loewe installer.

I think Spheros prices start at £5000.

That appears not to include the DVD recorder worth £450 which makes Harrods cheaper for the combo. Noty wsure what standard warranty is but Harrods is 2 years on these sets.

    Thanks Ian.

I allready have a DVD Recorder, it maybe worth £450 because the name, but in real terms it does not.
If Harrods can do an 80GB HD in the Xelos 32" for £1999, or a FREEVIEW tuner, I would go for it.
If not, I try and ask JL if they can match the £2650, since they offer a 5 year warranty.

    Thanks again.

You could always eBay the DVD recorder if you don't need it - would that work out cheaper overall?

    Yes it does.

Peter Martin prices are more expensive for the options. I guess im trying to pacify myself, but for the options that I have ordered, Peter Martin online price is 'only' £150 cheaper but I get a full installation by Loewe themselves and the backup of a major retailler. Im not saying that Peter Martin is not honerable, but if something does go wrong, to me, £150 is worth it for peace of mind.

    Hi Ianh

don't want to annoy you, but Pete Martin do full install also, £75 delivery install to London and Southeast (they are a true authorised dealer)

Owned Loewe's for a while now, just need to find the cash for the new Xelos ;)

Would love your thoughts on the set when you finally get it.

    Cheers Mash

It won't annoy me :smoke: That make it only £75 cheaper which is 'nothing'. I got an hour or so's demo connected to a decent DVD source, was able to ask all the questions that I wanted with a Linn employee, take measurements (I didn't realise that the DR+ box was taller) and had an enjoyable day out. I was able to make my mind up there and then, place an order and finally stop the 20 month quest into a new widescreen set happy in the knowledge that I have bought the best screen for my requirements at a time that suited me. So its going to be cheaper elsewhere, reduced in a few months or so, better by something else in 6 months time. Life is too short

Also, would like to know what people think of the new Sharp 32" screens, the 32GD1E or the 32 GA3E.

Have only seen one review and that was of the 37GD1E in What Hi-Fi magazine - not so favourable on picture quality

Never actually noticed the image lag. More than likely caused by an iffy dolby digital decoder in the review model. The Dolby Digital is good. Its a bit bass light, but a £220 subwoofer solved that.

The unit looks pretty sweet too, just waiting to buy a wall bracket.

Ok, np. I was just wondering what it looked like from different angles (some photos made it look pretty ugly).

Would you recommend that Samsung? I'm looking to buy an LCD.
