which would most of you guys go for?

choice is 32(ish) inch sony lcd screen wall mounted but also with a projector in the room (cheaper 2nd hand type probably off the forums)

    or................................

42 inch plasma (pw7) wall mounted and no projector??

room is 14ft x 14ft square with a bed and sofa

which would you guys go for....if roughly the same outlay?

get the lcd, projector, and sort the sound out for watching films, you'll be well away (and future proof)
don't get a duff deal on lamp time or cost by buying a cheap nasty projector though

Yup, projector and lcd all the way

I've currently got the same setup and it's very much the best of both worlds. I was tempted by the convenience of a lare DLP, like the Sagem however. Would be very handy for day time use, but the wife was much happier with the projector/tv combo!

well i have got the kef eggs sorted and ready to go, and the hk amp on its way so now i just need the visuals!!

being tempted by the lcd / pj combo more and more... thinking SONY KLV30HR3B... at £700 new and delivered is this a good buy??

and then a pj off the forums like an ae300 or z1 for around 300?!
    what you guys think?

that's exactly what i've got at the moment (Philips 32PF9986 & Panasonic PT-AE300) but i'm now looking to change back to just a plasma screen.
It depends really on if what use they will get. Since buying the LCD i'm just not getting the use out of the projector now.

Weigh up exactly what you intend to use each item for and if it will get the use, and if it justifies the outlay or not

I've got a projector and am in the process of buying a 32" LCD so i say go with that. I agree with mitor, best of both worlds

do you find the 32 lcd was plenty big enough for normal tv and say an average film on tv where you just couldnt be arsed to use the pj?

LCD and projector seems like the perfect combination to me. LCD for during the daytime/bright evenings or when you don't feel like putting the projector on, projector when it gets dark, or when you want to have that true "cinema experience"

Or you might just want to go with a big LCD, if you were considering just a plasma on its own. I know I'd prefer the ease of one display. Splitting signals can be expensive if you've got a lot of sources and don't want to loose quality. (and you'll wear down the sockets if you just keep manually switching cables around)

Personally I'd say plasma is out of the picture now. It's just got far too many problems. "Rainbow effect," burn-in, image retention, grain, panel resolution etc...

From Sony's leaflet about their new LCD range, the rumours of them dropping plasmas entirely seem likely to be true:

I have gone the LCD + Projector way! Normal viewing via A Diboss 27", Movies etc via a IBM iLV300 (Infocus X1) + 2m Screen that doubles as a blackout blind over my large mill window, Total cost (excluding av amp xbox etc.) £1250!!
