    Hi All,

I have two subs in the front corners.....I also have another sub (All diy and the same) lying around...as you do.

Has anyone ever in 3 subs with the 3rd behind the listening position?

    Cheers

    Paul

Hi, very briefly yes, although they were far from identical (two SB13Ultras up front and an Arendal Sub3 behind my sofa) Firstly I'd like to point out that this was just for fun and I didn't really have any intention of keeping it that way. Anyways, It didn't really work out due to Audyssey detecting the very different roll offs and messing up the low end but if it weren't for that I reckon it could have been made to work. I can't see you having any of those issues with 3 identical subs and a MiniDSP.. You haven't still got those huge towers have you?

I have three identical Tannoy TS12 subwoofers in my bedroom, one underneath each of the 90cm-tall front left and right speakers, and the third underneath the one of the row of chairs immediately behind my bed. I do mainly listen to the surround-sound system when I'm actually in bed, so yes, the third subwoofer is slightly behind me then. The third subwoofer, although I've had it for years, was added to the bedroom in only about October last year, and I do notice the improvement.

Chances are it won't work well. That's not to say it cant, but careful set up is required if you dont want to negatively impact the overall sound. Gain matching and time aligning the subs will be very important. The other thing of note is that adding a second subs to a first gains 6db of extra system power, while adding a third sub to two only reaps half those gains overall. If you have it lying around there's no harm in trying, but I'd advise you do a bit of studying up on the finer details of settings subs up if you haven't already to ensure you get it right.
