I think a bit more on what kit you have and what connections they have would help out with any advice to be offered!

Of course! Ok so I have my ps3 and my pc, I want to connect my senheister pc 360 headset into both of them. I've got an astro mixamp 5.8 (the wireless one). This does audio via optical. For the mic to the ps3 it has an USB lead specifically for it, for the pc I wanted to plug the mic directly into the mic in port. What I'm asking is, is there a device I can plug both optical cables into and have one lead to the mix amp which I can switch with a button, and is there something identical for the mic so I can plug one directly into the computer and the other into the mix amp to go to the ps3 (again with a switch).

Ah, OK. I *think* I get it.

By the sounds of it you need a simple optical switch that allows you to select either the PS3 Optical out or PC's Optical Out and for that to be fed to your astro amp.

    Something like this:-?
"Expensive type" - 2 Way TosLink Digital Optical Audio Switch | Audio | Switches | Audio / Video | LINDY UK
    "Cheap type" - http://www.amazon.co.uk/TOSlink-Optical-Switch-3-Port/dp/B001NXK9DG

As far as the mic side goes, would this do?

    3.5MM STEREO JACK FEMALE TO 2 x 3.5 MALE PLUGS 1.8M | eBay

That's perfect for the optical! Thanks! As for the mic, not quite, I wanted something basically identical to the expensive toss link box but for 3.5mm audio jacks. I don't want dual output from one source, if that's easier to understand. Also I assume not because its digital but is there any difference in quality between the two optical ones you linked?

Edit: effectively like you said I wanted a switch to direct the output of the mic to either the pc OR the astro mix amp.

Either of the optical switches will work. Whether the cheaper one will last more than 6 months of use is another matter!

As for the audio, the link is not a male to two females (i.e. split an output), its a female amd two males (i.s. split an input). You stick your mic into the female bit and the two males will give you the two outputs.

    It's a 3.5mm STEREO Socket to 2 x 3.5mm STEREO Jack Plugs.

I got what you meant with the first one but I wanted it either to one or the other but not both at the same time. But the second one you linked seems perfect! Thanks a whole bunch! :)

If you didn't want to spend $25 on the switch, there are instructions on the net how to make your own. Simple, but fiddly if you're not used to soldering.
