3:10 to Yuma, very odd (and annoying) Blu-Ray disc

Talking of good westerns like the Wild Bunch (and maybe the best western !), I haven't got a profile Blu-Ray player so I wasn't expecting it to handle 3:10 to Yuma very smoothly but I was surprised at the 3 minute loading time with grey bar going back and forth across the screen like a PC programme loading. Then there were the I think 10 forced trailers (you're prevented from making use of the menu button) for a modern classic starring Sly Stallone (Rambo 4), something with Vinnie Jones, then Jason Statham, Jet Lie, a "comedy", another Statham and gawd knows what else, think I was in Blu-Ray hell ? But finally getting the movie to play I was very pleased indeed at a 2007 take on the western genre, even if it didn't have the 1950s original's much better pacing and claustrophobic intensity (although a lot of the violence appeared to have been edited out of the final cut). The PQ is stunningly good. If you have a proper sound system (I don't) the 7.1 set-up is probably very good, as well. Having slagged the disc off I would also highly recommend it to any fan of the western genre (it's better than Clint's Oscar winning western).

No, in my rambling I said that 3:10 to Yuma was better than The Unforgiven (which would have been a greater movie if a) someone else had directed it, and b) the ending hadn't sloppily reverted to a
Clint Eastwood shoot everyone in sight and not get even a shaving cut
    type of movie.

oh right , there hasn't been a better "western" film since the unforgiven period, the only thing that came close was Deadwood co*$ksucker (only funny if you have seen deadwood):lease:

I have ordered this on blueray, so am looking forward to watching it after reading very positive reviews. If it ever comes near to 'unforgiven' then I will be well pleased. Loved that movie.

Just started watching this on my PS3 (it then dawned on me I have to be somewhere in an hour and not even showered)

Anyway - no loading bar at the start and each trailer bypassed by a touch of the "next" button. Not sure if could skip them all with the menu button - never tried it

I have a BD 300 which doesn't allow PiP features, AFAICS. I can skip the trailers, all ten of them and not a decent film among them.

Ok, lets talk sound quality. The "A" in the "AV forum":)

I have 7.1 and the movie sounds superb on it:smashin: Not a particularly loud recording but extremely well used in the surrounds dept.
Anyone know if there are any other BluRays with 7.1PCM tracks?

I'd love to know this too. The UK cover art is far better than the US one. :D

The U.K cover arts are always cool and better than the U.S cover arts.

Anybody know the answer to this as I've bought the Region B version thinking it was region free. The cover just says REGION B so I'm loathed to break the sealed coating just to find out as it will have better resale value as a sealed copy.

OK I just had to find out and so I've opened the case. Alas the Region B version of 3:10 to Yuma does not work in my Region A machine.

Madness really, the Region A disk is region free but there you go well done Lionsgate ......... NOT

Off to see if some nice person will a Region A will trade.

Damn, such a shame about that. I was hoping it would be region free and with the US release already out, thought there would be a good chance of it being the case.

Thanks for the info anyways. I'll go order the (boxart inferior) US edition now!

After reading about the abundance of adverts on the Region A '3:10 To Yuma' BD, I had my remote in hand with thumb over the skip-forward button when I sat down to watch the Region B version last night. To my surprise, the UK version has no adverts on it whatsoever.

As for the disc itself, I would recommend it. The PQ isn't the best I've seen though it's never less than excellent and the SQ was great even though I was only able to listen to the 640kbps DD EX track. Of course, none of this would matter if the film was poor but I'm pleased to say it's a very good example of the western genre and this is coming from someone who studied westerns pretty rigorously for several months a couple of years back.

Watched about 12 Blu-ray discs so far and not had an advert on one of them.

Thought remake of 3.10 very good, but I am a sucker for westerns. Nice picture and audio too.

I Happened upon this site http://mysite.verizon.net/ruvic/bluray-audio.htm

I dont know how accurate it is but so far seems to confirm what I already know, I have recently updated my system to 7.1 and want something to show it off a little, 3.10 to yuma seemed like a good choice I guess, not much out there yet with pcm 7.1
