I currently have the GeForce 4200Ti 128meg card but saw this on my intranet- good card/deal?

256MB Radeon 9600 8xAGP Graphics Card with Dual DVI

Excalibur Radeon 9600 graphics card. Bought 6-8 months ago for intended upgrade, but when I upgraded it was to a PCI-E card, hence this card.

    Specs are:

    9600 Radeon VPU
Dual integrated 10-bit per channel 400MHz DACs
    256MB DDR SDRAM
    AGP 8x/4x
15 pin VGA adaptor for analog
    S-Video connector and cable
2 x DVI-I connector for digital CRT or flatscreen
Independent resolutions and refresh rates for any two connected displays
    Windows XP/2000/ME/98/98SE
In box with driver CD and original games CD.

    £30

Seems good value for a 256Mb. I'd buy it!

    too late- it went(!)

my geforce fan is making alot of noise compared to the rest of my box- do you know a good quiet graphics card for use with MCE? Not really a pc gamer as i have the xbox so its just for general media stuff- video, recording, etc

I dunno- give me a budget option and then a quality option and I'll take my pick from there. I dont want a graphics card over 200 squid thats for sure- I quite like the idea of the cards with no fans though.

Needs to run a 1366 resolution for my 32" lcd screen via dvi.

Radeon 9200 (all of these are passive)~ £30
Radeon 9600 Passive ones available for ~£70
Sapphire Radeon 9600XT Ultimate (Passive) ~£90+
    Geforce 6600GT Passive ~£150
The latter 2 have heatsinks both sides of the board so you might need to check they'll fit in your case (they won't fit in a Silverstone LC11 for instance)

Thanks for that- you've been pretty much spot on whith your opinioins on kit so far- took your advice and got the fanmate 2 with an ultra quiet fan - works a charm- well- when i stop the fan on the gfx card from spinning :D

You are wise and yet you are not on the jedi council :nono: (guess who went to see star wars last night)

    would you go for a 256mb 9200 or a 128mb 9600?

no need for 256MB - esp not in a 9200 to be fair - MCE doesn't need that much and any game requiring that amount will struggle on a 9200

i went for the 256mb 9600 in the end. If I'm upgrading my kit i might as well do it properly.

    thanks for all the help.
