oops .. missed "car" from the title :suicide:

... the car im looking at is an imported (97) mitsubishi FTO ... but, its had 10 previous owners, would this be an indication to steer clear ? ..

There are many sports cars that have as many owners as years. We looked at Porsches that were six years old with six owners and that the service history was more important than the number of owners.

The trouble with the FTO is that as an import you don't know how many owners it had before being imported and as a fairly cheap but fast car nowadays it is likely to have been thrashed and not serviced properly

tabs, ebay links are fine - Unless you are a confident mechanic and can look over the car properly before buying I'd walk away. You say there is no service history but the auction says it was regularly serviced? If that's the case, why is there no service history. People who service their own cars tend to at least keep the receipts for the oil and filters.

In my opinion the best place to buy cars like the FTO is from enthusiast forums. The cars are generally better taken care of and you can read the sellers posts to find out any trouble they've had with the car in the past.

Also: Why has the car been SORNed?

I know exactly what you mean Tabs. I've gone through eleven cars in the last four years. I've never really NEEDED to change. I just get bored and go for it. Every car I've had I've had to put something right (except for, believe it or not an Alfa 156). If you've got a mate who's mechanically minded take them along to have a look at it.

My car history is here :)

ez now... well seeing as it mitsubushi... id be thinking it was ok. but if anything goes worng on that bad boy... boy is it gonna cost ya... there are a hell of alot of cheap fast cars out there mate... id be looking at some other coups... or even sports cars... youll get some mit bmw or hondas for that kinda money...

i had a showgun - 2.5 v6 - was an awesome car but it needed serviceing every 5k and the bills regular came in at near 1k - personally if i was selling a car that i had regular service at that priced id b proud to show it...

best thing to do is go look, drive n see how u feel. im always a bit sceptical of cars of ebay, but i bought a mgbgt off there without seeing it and it was a great car!

fto's aint to quick tho, n they are poor on courners... i had a civic 1.8vtec n rememebr blowing one off from the lights...

personally i wouldnt have it... but then when u think what to look at instead...

rememeber this - if something looks to good to be true... it generally is! nt:hiya:

There are a number of different engines in the FTO range and the better ones are exceedingly quick

I like Alfas too, they make a mint in the salvage yard, cheap to buy as a write-off and almost every part needs replacing by someone else!

I used to sell Alfas when the GTV first came out, it is a superb car to drive. Although anything but the V6 is not actually that fast the interiors make you feel extra special.
