Buying a Denon-2900 soon. If I get 3 pairs of QED Qunex 2's for SACD/DVDA would I use these for movie audio too or do I also need a digital audio cable.

Cheers,

troy

What amp are you connecting to ?

You could use the DVD player's internal decoder to send decoded DD and DTS signals to your amp but it is invariably better to use a digital co-axial cable to connect to the amp and let the amp decode the signal as invariably the bass management facilities are limited on the DVD player and much better on the amp

Thanks guys,

Apologies Carlos. I PM'd you the same question before discovering your response here.

Denon AVC-A1D. It has 6CH EXT. IN (and 8CH). The DAC's are 24 bit reference Burr-Browns whatever the hell that means but assume this is the info. anyone needs to advise me which connection method to use.

you would use a digital cable for movies and some people prefer the sound of 2 channel music through the digital cable and let the AMP do the decoding as the player will only output 5.1 through its onboard decoder, where the AMP will process for 7.1.
But for SACD/DVD-A you would need 3 pairs of audio cables to connect the players decoder to the Amp, as it will not pass the SACD/DVD-A music down the digital cable.

Thanks chris.

So if I won't be playing 2 channel music (I'll be suprised if it sounds better than my X-Ray CD player) and only need 5.1 (don't have or want the extra speakers) do you still recommend the digital cable?

Thanks,

troy

I would say yes, still get a digital cable........i found the decoding of the 3803 better than the 2900.
Digital coax cables are very cheap, so it wont hurt to try it, then you can see what decoder you prefer.
