looking at the Hitachi 28LD5200 and it doesn't mention HDMI ready but on the connections specs states that one of them RGB1(digital) is 24-pin DVI and in brackets ( 1.0v + HDCP). Anyone know what this means?

It means it's compatible with an HDCP encrypted signal - just like an HDMI connection.

Whether it will do the resolutions you want is different matter. If this is your next question, check out the plasma forum for the plasma versions. Some of this though may be due to the plasma's being based on the ALIS panels - generally 1024x1024 interlaced.
