Fox network showed the first episode of 24 Season 3 yesterday.

More info @ www.fox.com/24 and BBCi with preview here.

This series will be shown to UK's general public in the next few months but it is globally available to all Kazza users now.

Ha! I can't wait the 3-6 months it will be before they show it over here. As soon as I found out the first episode had aired I was straight on Usenet.

Man, it rocks!! Quite a few shocks and revelations. Oh, and for those that were irritated by Kim in the 1st and 2nd series, you're gonna be even more annoyed now.

    *spoiler*
    Kim works for CTU now!!!

I assume you're referring to us that downloaded it? Hmmm, let's see, can downloading a VHS quality cap of a TV episode that will be aired here in a few months be considered piracy? Or... right.. maybe you can consider calling it time shifting? Which is legal.

If this was a DVD Rip of Season 3 then I can understand, but we're talking VHS quality, that weigh in at 500Mb's each, I seriously doubt anyone would keep 24x500Mb files or go to the trouble of DivX'ing it when it's ONLY VHS quality.

It's time shifting, that's it, nothing more. Why should I wait 3-6 months till they air it over here? I want to be able to join the discussion over at fox.com/24 now, not 3 months behind the other members.

PoochJD: you always seem to be one to get on your moral high horse about this crap, no doubt you've reported the thread to a moderator? Why don't you just ignore the thread and leave the rest of us to our own devices?

We are the 1st Internet enabled generation of consumers that is slowly getting liberated from physical geographical constrains and outdated trade pacts. There is significant resistance to this both from the multinational organizations that are hopping to prolong the status quo and well as from other consumers (those that are either partial Internet enabled, technologically challenged, or morally impeded).

I am always interested in other people opinions on this subject. In one of the previous discussion about 24 some members expressed preference for waiting for the DVD release rather that watching the episodes on TV week by week. It looks to me a bit masochistic but we are free society and within a year they will have a DVD set in their possession.

The rules of content distribution are changing and although the current stage is chaotic and unregulated, it is already pointing towards the global pay-per-view market. The music industry has failed to recognize and act on the Internet distribution channel and TV may find itself in the similar position.

So, who should report this thread to moderator and why?

PS. I am hearing the rip is from the US digital TV service, re-encoded and comparable in quality to Freeview.

    Situation is very liquid.

I just got a message that 24 Season 3 episode 2 will be available to DVD buyers in the UK in 1yr, but those who prefer not to wait that long can download it from Kazza now.

I of course prefer to wait and see all of them in one go. I also never wanted to watch Faulty Towers in 1975 and was patiently waiting until the release of all episodes in 2001, so I can watch them all at the same time.

So, was Fox being greedy and trying to jack up the price to silly levels I wonder?

I read that the 3rd series has not been as popular as the first 2.

I also believe the reason for the trouble was that the BBC was going to transmit it over an open sat frequency, thus European counters would be able to see it and I think Fox wanted to sell it to them separate.

BBC Not Showing 24 Season 3.

Times reports yesterday that negotiations failed between the BBC and Fox Television not due the price but rather BBC's decision to switch its satellite service from Sky to Astra. Fox was concerned that unencrypted BBC transition can be also freely seen in some other parts of Europe.

Fox is now planning to show Season 3 on their new entertainment channel, FX UK that would be available in Sky from next year.

For remainder, Fox Television, Sky Television, and The Times all belong or are controlled by Mr Murdoch.

    Garrett,

    Sorry I missed your post.

24 Season 3 is now on the sixth episode for US viewers and broadband user globally.

US viewers also have their watching interrupted by commercial breaks.

I thought it was commercial free in the US because Ford were sponsoring it so they pay a fee equal to the sum of all the ads and get loads of airtime pre and post the show.

Anyone know if the region 1 dvd of season 3 comes out earlier than the r2?

Cant say I have ever watched 1 episode of 24 but when it comes to downloading episodes I think its fine, some nice person in the US can record the episode from TV, then send it via airmail to you but that would take a week or more and then you have to have the right equipment to watch it, by downloading it you are just saving that time and making sure it will work, cant see anything wrong with it, if you think there is something wrong with it then you better stop recording tv onto video because its the same thing just a different format.

The difference is you are allowed to record a program off TV for you own use. But taping for someone else or down loading is copyright infringement. If a station pay to show it and a lot of people get the series sent them or downloaded it they may not get good figures when shown correctly, thus they may not buy the next series. Then the makers decide a series is not making enough revenue and cancel the series and everybody suffers.

Yes that is the law but how many people have recorded a tv program for a friend while they were out or for a family memeber, im just saying that it is all the same, if something is good but I have to wait a year or so to watch it I will download it and when it comes on TV I will watch it and then even buy it on dvd if it is released.

    Hi,

Does anyone know which Sky package this FX-UK TV channel is going to be included with? Also, will it then also start to take other UK-first shows off the air from terrestrial, e.g. "The Shield: Season 3" which airs on Five, as well?
