    Hi,

I've just recieved 24 R2 from Play. Now, I havent seen the series but everyone I spoke to says is excellent, my question is this, apparntly there are 24 episodes that are an hour long, so why does it say that total viewing time is 1041 minutes which is just over 17 hours? Anyone have any ideas?

Advertising breaks in the US made each episode 1 hour long, but the program time a bit less

Its like any programme on the BBC or any other channel come to that, the advertised time slot is an hour but the actual running time is usually 50 minutes to take into account the usual stuff before and after the prog.

    Hi,

Nearly all hour-long US shows, are actually only 42 minutes in length. The remaining 18 or so minutes, is for the adverts. Hence, that's why when you get US shows airing on the BBC, they almost always fit nicely into a 45-minute time slot. However, when the same shows air on Sky, or C4 or ITV, they tend to fit them into a 50-60 minute time-slot.

Despite this, each episode of "24" ran anywhere between 41 and 45 minutes in length. So, Fox tried to estimate the time, and that's why the show's actual length is about 18 hours or 1080 minutes.

P.S. There are exceptions to this, though. Shows on American cable channel HBO (e.g. "The Sopranos", "Oz", or "Six Feet Under") often run anywhere between 42 minutes and 75 minutes, and rarely ever are of the same duration each episode. That's why Channel 4 and E4 fits them in odd-length time-slots.
