Panasonic and Sharp both have low res (848x480) panels.

Panasonic's panel has a poor viewing angle below the horizontal (which may be an issue for a bedroom installation).

Panasonic varies the intensity of the backlight in relation to picture content which improves perceived contrast.

Anyone had experience of the Hitachi or philips model then. Also looking at the samsung LW22A13WD, bit more expensive but would buy if its worth it

I'm untrusting of Philips. Had bad experiences in the past (more than one) with unreliability and dreadful after-sales (Philips fault, not the dealer's - lack of parts availability). May no longer be true, but once bitten......

Highly satisfied with my (earlier) Samsung LW22A13. Unlike some (the Philips may be one of them) this is true 16x9 and not 15x9.
