2021 Sony OLED A80J - image retention issue?

Hello everyone. I just bought the OLED Sony A80J a few days ago and it’s amazing! However, I noticed one thing which is concerning me. So I was browsing through Disney+ On my Apple TV And decided that I was gonna watch a Marvel movie. I was scrolling through the different movie titles when I clicked on Captain Marvel so that I can read the movie description. I left the screen still as I read the description of the Movie. When I was done reading (approximately 1 minute later) I accidentally clicked the home button on my remote. that’s when I noticed that the Captain Marvel Logo was still present on the screen on the Home Screen, but very faintly. I remembered reading about burn-in and image retention and I immediately said to myself….. “oh no”. I then tried to replicate the issue and recording it. I will post images to show this. Should I be concerned?

Did I get a defective TV? I’m concerned because I didn’t even let the same image for a long time. It was only for like 1 minute or 2. Please share some advice with me. Thank you!

Also, here is a video of the recording. I uploaded some screenshots here but you can barely see it. it looks better in the video.

I just checked right now and it's not present anymore. It's only temporary, but should that even happen in the first place?

What picture mode and OLED luminance setting were you using ? I would imagine the brighter this is, the more likely you are to see it.

I would definitely hunt out some other A80J users and see if anyone else has experienced it - try asking in the user's thread in the Sony TV forum. FWIW, I've never seen any image retention (temporary or permanent) on my Panasonic GZ950.

How many reports of permanent image retention have you seen of Sony OLEDs? Sony made very few OLED TVs prior to 2018 and so the risk of permanent burn in on Sony OLEDs is extremely rare. It was probably temporary image retention and nothing to get anxious about.

By the way. I tested again to see if I would get image retention and sure enough it is till happening. I just leave whatever screen on for about a minute and then I switch to a screen with a solid color and I can see a ghost image of the previous screen. Seems like it fades away after a minute. I’m not really happy about that, I think I got a bad panel:(

Image retention and burn in are two different things. The panel is behaving exactly as it should. It's a brand new panel. The longer you have it and bed in the panel the better it will get. The captain marvel logo is extremely bright on Disney plus.you have nothing to worry about. Only if it stayed there for days. You panel will be running compensation cycles aswell by itself of a night when your screen is in standby

Don't have a A80J but I have a 3 year old LG C8 OLED that had image retention from day one and it's still perfectly fine now.

I could probably count on two hands the amount of times I've noticed it in content, it's really not much of an issue imo and nothing to worry about.
