Well this year they took the old diversity drum, smashed it to pieces, built a brand spanking new one, and have since been banging the hell out of it.

Think we'll see that elusive female director victory for Nomadland.

Side note:

If Kaluuya and Stanfield are both nominated in the supporting category for JatBM... who the heck is the lead in that movie?

Stanfield is the lead, I'd say. He's fantastic in that, prefer him to Kaluuya (good though he is too) as it's a much more complex role.

Totally 100% agree. There's a lot asked of Stanfield in that movie and he delivers all the way.
Besides which he's obviously the lead! The bookends, the scenes with Roy, he is the main character and it's NUTS that he didn't get a lead actor tip.

Once again Soul will win best animated feature where Wolfwalkers was a much better film.
I love Tom Moore but I defo thought Song of the Sea was better than Wolfwalkers. The fact that it was beat out by Big Hero 6 which is essentially 'a fine movie' is criminal.
Also, Soul was just pitched right to jab me in the jibber-joe and a nice return to form after Onward was 'also just a fine movie'.

And where the hell is the nomination for The Devil All The Time?

I can see me getting my warpaint out again this year....

Yep that was an absolute travesty, up there with Forrest Gump beating Pulp Fiction AND The Shawshank Redemption.

I'd forgotten Mank was a Netflix jobber. That's a coup for them this year. Could take the biggie.

Is it just me, or does anyone else have zero interest in award ceremonies this year........

Award season normally just makes me rage.

However this year it might be quite interesting given the diversity boost the categories have had. And as I said above, there's a very strong chance Netflix will bag themselves the Best Picture gong. Which will ruffle a few feathers.

This year or any year. They have ZERO influence on what I watch.

I thought Mank was good, but I didn't think it was great. True, everything about it was great. Technically, artistically etc. (no doubt about that at all) but it plodded on a bit.

I'm a bit of an OCD list-maker and enjoy comparing and shoring up films; so I enjoy the build up to awards ceremonies for that reason.

The actual awards and the people that give and receive them? Couldn't give a ****. Its all political now, and you just know that depending on the identities of the artists, they could film someone taking a dump for 10 minutes and it would win all the awards.

Great no nomination for Tenet for sound, worst sound design in the history of big blockbuster movies, so pleased and i loved the movie by the way. Hopefully Mr Nolan will now listen to the general public who complained.

I'm fairly sure that Tenet has been nominated for an Oscar for Technical Excellence in Sound Design sponsored by paracetamol......
