I'm going to use KEF 9000 as fronts and center. I'm now wondering if i'm going to use the 2005.2 or 5005s as surrounds in 7.1 setup. I haven't heard either of them and was set for the 5005s. However I notice in the specs that he 5005s only go down to 100hz and the 2005.2s go down to 80hz. I'm have a SVS 20-39+ sub that is going to be used with the system and I would prefer to have the cut-off at 80hz or 90hz.

    Any comments?

    Hi Harol,

The 2005.2 speakers roll off at around 80Hz and are ported so the roll off is quite quick.

The 5005 speakers are closed box. They roll off at 100Hz but gradually get quieter as the frequencies decrease.
If you were to use an 80Hz crossover, the 5005 speakers will still play down to 80hz.
If they were wall mounted, they may even be flat to around 80hz.

KEF quote anechoic responses (no walls or floor etc to reinforce the bass output).

I would opt for the KHT6000ACE speakers if I were using 9000's at the front.

What ever you go for will work well with an 80Hz crossover, as these crossovers are not brick walls, they are 2nd order (12db/octave).

I use KHT2005's on the surround channels and a 60Hz crossover on the receiver as my fronts, centre & sub sound better with this setting.

I have yet to notice the surrounds weaker output around the crossover frequency.

I use 80Hz if I am playing the system loud.

I haven't found any details on the 6000s yet. Anyway I ended up with 2005s as surround speakers. Reason was they had a special of on the 2005.2 package (5 2001s and 1 sub) for £500. 4 5005s would have set me back £850 pounds. And my wife likes the new sub included in the package (grey and square) instead of the psw 2500 i have. So I will sell the 2500 sub for around £200 which effectively leave me with 5 x 2001s for £300 and a sub that my wife likes better. I will use a SVS 20-39+ in the basement for with the home cinema setup. In the living room I use 2x9000s + the new sub for TV and Music. And I only need another 2001 now and I will have a 9.1 setup :) just need a new receiver
