I have recently joined one of those monthly sub dvd's by post.

I was a member of two others for much of 2004, so have seen quite a few movies in the last 12 months.

However, now I am struggling to get many dvds in my queue  . I've searched the empire website, they usually have 50 or 100 must films of 2002/3/4 etc but don't seem to have one for last year.

So - let me have some movie recomendations for my dvd queue, I'm mainly interested in little treasures that I may have missed, but any mainstream ones also would be great. Any genre no preferences.

(Also they don't have to be 2004)

(Possibly should be in movie forum?)

May be try "Open Range", excellent Costner, both acting & directing. It´s my 2004 favourite.
Also "Taegukgi", a corean war movie (don't know if available on dvd in Europe, though)

Hero, Iron Monkey, The Warrior, Bichunmoo, Princess Blade.

Some quite highly rated Asian movies which have quite a lot of action but pretty good and strong stories as well.

Why don't you try The Returner...

It's a Japanese sci-fi movie which is packed with action. It's not the most original using ideas from all over the shop but it's a very good movie which quite a lot of this forum's members like, if I recall correctly. You used to be able to pick this up cheaply from CD wow which included a DTS soundtrack but I believe is available on region 2, alas without DTS.

    Three...Dumplings
Once Upon A Time in Highschool: Spirits of Jeet Kun Do
Ong Bak (2003 but not released in UK yet ;) )
Irreversible (if you have the stomach for it!)

I think 2004 was a bit of a crap year for films personally...

I'd add (to those mentioned already) The Butterfly Effect, I, Robot and Big Fish. All have their merits (and demerits), but I'd watch each of them again. Moreoever, Finding Nemo and also Seabiscuit are both outstanding reference-quality for both sound and vision, as well as being (IMHO :) ) hugely entertaining. I think I'd put Seabiscuit in my Top 20 of all time. Just my 2p....
