Hi all, I'm considering one of these two, but I'm not sure how they compare. From a placement point of view the 31" would be hidden behind an armchair in the corner, whereas the 39" will be poking it's head over the top of the chair, and I'm not sure what the wife will think of that. The SVS website seems to suggest the 31" goes louder, but not as low, but I'm not too concerned with playing stuff really loud, so would I be able to tune a 31" to go lower and not really suffer any drawbacks if I'm not listening at reference levels? As always, opinions/comments gratefully received! Cheers, Ed.
Hi Ed, I used to own a 25-31pc+ and also tuned it to 20hz but it could of been tuned down to 16hz i personally did not feel like i lost much headroom once it was done, they are very powerfull subs and generate alot of bass. I think that the 39 would of been too big and was happier with the size of the 31. Either way i do not think you will be dissapointed with the 31 as it is a cracking sub for the money. There is not much LFE or bass below 20hz on DVD or CD'S so no real loss. John
If you're not playing stuff at reference level I doubt whether you will notice the difference between a 20-39 and a 25-31 with the latter tuned to 20Hz Note that it is only the PC Plus range that allows for port tuning as the PCi has a fixed port.
Yes sorrry Ed as Ian Rightly noted i forgot to mention it is only the PC+ range that allows for port tuning. John
Thanks guys! I think I'll probably be going to get the 31", but I'm hopefully going to get a demo of Ian's 39" soon just before I commit (Ian, I'll PM you about it to make arrangements. Need to check with the wife, you never know she might even be interested in seeing/hearing it ) Does anyone know why the Ultra only comes in one size?? Cheers, Ed.
As Einstein said: "All thing are are relative." And I say: "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder!" The difference between a man and a boy is the size of his toys? Nimby
I was in a similar predicament deciding between the 20-39PCi and the 25-31PC+. Went for the 20-39 in the end and I didn't actually need it to go loud, I just wanted deep. I'm more than happy with the 20-39PCi despite it being a different driver and amp size to the PC+ range.
