Are the ex2's plug and play or do the hard drives need to be manually partitioned and formatted?

Not sure sorry especially since i removed the original hard drives but i assume it would be pretty easy to set it up

You need to use the WD Drive Utilities app which will then allow you to partition HDD's individually / create RAID disk sets etc...

When you plug the enclosure into a Mac the USB controller element shows up but NO HDD until such time you do the above and fairly sure that is the case for Windows ;-)
