Is it possible to connect a 2 channel stereo amp to a A/V reciever by linking the two front speakers via cable from the reciver to the 2 channel amp. Therefore only switching the 2 channel amp on for music and the A/V reciver for Movies?

If you have preouts on the receiver, sure no problem. If there is no AV pass-through feature though you will have to calibrate at a set volume on the stereo amp and use that setting each time.
