    i bought second hand.
having heard kit at the sound and vision show (bristol) last year (2005), i decided i must have m&k speakers.

Alas! i researched and not only could i not afford the speakers! they needed high quality amplification to drive them well!

avforums to the rescue: classifieds and a few "wanteds" in the classifieds resulted in a top notch (albeit second hand) system which would have cost at least threee times as much new!

    avc10se (£300 - i paid) old now - but equal to amps costing 700+?
    m&k k4 surrounds - £250 i paid i think - £500ish new?
    2&m&k k5 plus m&k k7 as centre - £275 i think - bargain!? bit of interconnects - £1000 easy!

still going now after 6 months of very hard use in new cinema room! still smile every time at the experience!

It must sound a bit squeaky if you're running satellites with no subwoofer

mmm yes, probably. There is a Velodyne CHT-8 in there as well - but still not much over £1k!

    Consider the SVS 5.1 setup.

The PB10 is the mutts :smashin:
The speakers are supposed to be good, but I haven't heard them.
    I have the sub.
and I'm considering the exact same move, speaker-wise.
With the special buy via this forum, (£870???) you only need to up your budget a bit, to include a decent amp, to have a pukka setup, IMO.

The SVS speakers system of five monitor speakers plus the PB-10 sub is only £820 via the banner ad on this forum and in my opinion is worth every penny of that as it's a cracking setup for both movies and music.

Amazon are doing the Sony STR-DB798 for £228.66 with free delivery. That is only £1050 with the SVS speakers.
