    Hi All

    Just a bit of fun!

I managed to get hold of the huge 1/4 scale Alien by Neca, which are now hard to get hold of. Being a keen modeller I decided to turn it in to a statue rather than a working figure. This meant carving up, re-sculpting and painting.

I have nearly finished the sculpt and it is primed to identify further defects. Once I have a tidy I can begin painting:-

    4.jpg

It was very dirty and some things were just wrong so I wanted to get rid of all the joints, have different shaped hands, ,better placed and shaped dome.

The teeth have been cleaned and slightly reshaped. These will be covered in foil for a fresh metallic look.

    Cleaned and reshaped 6.jpg 11.jpg

    Reshaped the hands 13.jpg

Created the stance and locked the joints before sculpting the knee's and hips. 25.jpg

Here you can see a much better fit for the dome and ready for some paint.

A few more bits of sculpting and then on to my favourite part.....painting!! I'll update once I have some more to show.

Very nice. Can you add something to the full size picture so we can see the scale.

    DVD case or something

It's taken ages to do the sculpting but I can see loads of cleaning up and repairs on the sculpt!

    image2.JPG

Shall I make a bespoke base or would you leave it free standing? If you think it is better with a base.....................any suggestions would be welcome.

    Thanks

    Just s quick question.
Any particular reason why you went for a non transparent dome?

I have yet to paint it, but I prefer the look of the non transparent and shiny dome. This will be on display in my room so I am not overly fussed about it being an absolute replica. I feel it looks more sinister that way but it is a personal preference.

Just seems a shame to be covering up the skull underneath.
    Looks good overall though.

For a Base I would go for ship panel flooring with acid burn and maybe a couple of cooling rods from the end of the first film. :)

    Hi

I managed a £50 win on ebay but I have seen some go for £80+

It was a bit of pain stripping it down but It is a superb base for a statue. I think I will look at some scenes from the film to help with the base....................acid burnt floor is a nice idea.

I agree, that the skull underneath is nice to see but in this instance, the skull is not great and unless you have a nice clear dome to start with, I would rather mask.

Either way it is a fun build and will keep you updated.

    Thanks

    This is a great project.

I agree with the above comments: all high end statues come with nice bases so I think it would be a shame for yours not to have one. I'd look at the other alien statues SSC have done for inspiration (or to rip them off if I looked then enough! :D)

I must say, I'm a fan of the semi-opaque dome where you get a glimpse of the skull in the right light but never a clear image. It'll still look mega when you paint it though, I'm 100% sure.

Looking forward to progress shots on this.

    Hi

I am definitely doing a base. It will be based on an industrial type theme, with him stood on two large air vents with other pipework etc. It will give him even more height (currently 22 inches) and a feel for the ship it was on.

Still busy sculpting guys!! designing the base has been very challenging.

I tinkered with the industrial theme as stated earlier, but it just looked wrong and did not compliment the figure at all. So back to the drawing board and have him standing on a round base with an egg/face hugger towards the front and I am sculpting all the slug type worm creatures on the floor. It really looks menacing and the round base works a treat.

Now the figure is attached to the base I can really bring the sculpting to life, there are still lots of repairs to do on the Alien too, so I will be a bit slower on the updates.

    Thanks for your interest.

Ok I have done the base coat for the base and started sculpting the worms/slugs etc.

This was a very thick chopping board, which I covered with some spare trunking:-
    IMG_2561.JPG

The plan was to obviously have a nice external finish in keeping with the skeletal/fossil type look, so what better way than to use some old 1/16 Tiger Tank tracks:-

    IMG_2570.JPG

This was glued on using 5 minute epoxy. The plan was to fill with tough polyfilla but needed something for the filla to grab on to so I added some nails which were left protruded:-

    IMG_2572.JPG

I put in some wire to light up the egg and then mixed the filla, pouring on to the base:-

    IMG_2576.JPG

The statue is fixed with steel rods and is solid as a rock. Once dry I could begin sculpting the worms, which is going to take some time as I build up the layers:-

    IMG_2583.JPG

    IMG_2587.JPG

The egg will sit in the middle and is due to arrive tomorrow. It will require modification and re-sculpting but it is starting to come together now. Some of the sculpt cracked at the ankle when I fixed it to the base so will have to redo. Once all the sculpting is done on the base it will be primed as per the statue.

    Thanks

    Thanks for your interest.

I wired in the egg lights today....works a treat! The switch will be wired along with the battery pack in the recess of the base. The switch will be attached to the tank tracks so will be hardly noticeable:-

    IMG_2588.JPG

    IMG_2589.JPG

Still hundreds of small worms to do, followed by the detailed larger (scaled) slug type creatures that will sit on top of the smaller stuff. The egg requires a lot of work and will have the large worms protruding from the bottom and hanging over the edge.

Masses of work left to do but I will keep you posted.

    Thanks

continuing to sculpt the multitude of worms. Ignore the egg for the moment as this will have new scales sculpted on with the cracks between allowing the green light through. I am going to sculpt so chest bursters within the worms for interest too.

    IMG_2615.JPG

    IMG_2614.JPG

    IMG_2608.JPG

I will continue with the worms before sculpting 2 or 3 highly detailed bigger worms surrounding the egg. A engraved name plate will go on the front once it is completed.

Wow this is awesome I was looking up the NECA alien figures... would the 1/4 look silly next to a 1/6 predator?

Well, the proportions would be miles out if you were posing them together - they should be comparable in size with the pred possibly being slightly larger but the 1/4 alien world dwarf the 1/6 pred. Now, if you had one of the awesome Neca 1/4 preds, different story...;)
