    Analog, because the digital will be downsampled.

    More details would be helpful, but I'll try to give you a general answer.

    For DVD-A/SACD go with 6 channel analog - it's the only choice you've got with the 656.

    For DD/DTS, digital is the way to go - the Yammy has much better decoding abilities in this regard than the internal decoder in the Pio.

    For CD/PCM (on DVD-Video music discs) it's a question of personal preference - you may prefer the DACs and DSP modes of the Yamaha, though the DACs in the player are pretty good for the price of it IMHO. Not sure if the Yamaha supports 96Khz/24Bit PCM though - in which case if you've got a disc with this information on you're better off using the players DACs connected with good quality analog interconnects.
