1920x1080 through VGA?

Hi,

My laptop has just one VGA out conection and I would like to connect it to my HDTV through the highst possible resolution (1920x1080). Reading from my TV's manual this is only achieved via HDMI at 60Hz, the VGA can only go up to 1360x768.
What options do I have?
My first naive thought was that a vga->dvi adaptor and then a dvi->hdmi cable might do the trick, but will it work?

Thanks in advance.

No, DVI carries analogue and digital signals so the VGA is using the analogue wires and the HDMI is using the digital wires and you either wouldn't get a signal or the two types of DVI cable wouldn't even connect.

You'd need a VGA to DVI or VGA to HDMI converter box, but they start at £100.

Actually it might be that the TV wont accept a high res via the VGA input rather than a limit on the laptops VGA output - most laptops can do higher res than that on the VGA socket.
