    Hi all,

Does anyone know of an LCD screen which will do 1080p but does not have freeview etc and allows 1:1 mapping :lesson:

The reason I ask is that I want to use a video scaler/processor which means I do not want the screen to have a built in processor (or may be the ability to by pass it) but to display what is coming from the scaler as is.

    Thanks
    Jas

Hi I'm looking for the same thing and am considering the following 1080p capable TV's (Full HD).

Most of them have freeview tuner built in, but it should not interfere if you use the dvi/hdmi connection to display a 1:1 pixel mapped 1080p image (like a monitor):

    Sony W and X series (KDL-40W2000, KDL-40X2000, KDL-46W2000, KDL-46X2000, KDL-52X2000)

Samsung F71 series (LE40F71B and LE46F71B) (you need to ask for latest firmware for 1:1 hdmi "just scan")

    Sharp XD1E and GD1E seris (LC42XD1E, LC46XD1E, LC65GD1E)

    Goodmans GTVL42W15HD / Tatung V42EMGI

    Hope that helps.

Which if any of the above support 50Hz at 1920x1080?

    Cheers

What has freeview got to do with digital inputs or scaling? I have the Sharp XD1, using it from my HTPC via DVI-HDMI, and can run 1920x1080, 50 or 60hz. Set sharpness to -10 and the it's 1:1

    Yep, I've had my 42XD1E at both 50Hz and 60Hz 1920x1080 1:1 :)

Is there anything to choose between any of these screens in terms of quality given that they are going to be driven from an external scaler on a 1:1 basis? Anything to tip towards the Sharp over the Samsung?

    Cheers

I'm pretty sure the Goodmans does. Don't know about the others.

I get the impression not. I think I read that 1920 x 1080 panels are only made by two manufacturers, so that in the cheapo Goodmans is likely to be the same panel as in some of the more expensive branded TVs.

The thread on the Goodmans is very long, but many seem happy with its 1:1 output - the major failing seems to be input from RGB SCART, so if that's not important take a look at this set. People describe it as very crisp and sharp and basically a "blinding bargain 1920 x 1080 computer monitor", so I'm having trouble finding anything better to fit my needs (MythTV, basically, and a console by component).

The electronics play a very large part in determination of product quality when it comes to panels.

Is that relevant, if you're feeding it a 1:1 PC input via DVI?
