I have given my denon 1910 to my dad to use with his new philips 37PF9986, and this now leaves me free to buy another dvd player. I would like to use this new one with my z2 via dvi and tosh rptv via component. I had big macroblocking issues with the 1910 via component, but dvi seemed ok.

Is the panny any better with component and would the hdmi output be any better picture wise?
As it has hdmi, would upscaling still work with a hdmi-dvi converter?

Or should I just get another 1910?

I would like this sorted today.

    Thanks

Considering the various problems people have had with the 1910 (brightness, overscan etc.), I would go for the S97. HDMI does not give you better picture, with DVI at the other end it's the same, but upscaling will still work.

There is a long user review of the S97 at avsforum.com which is very positive. It does still have some macroblocking, I've read. Think all players based on this faroudja chip have this.

I would concur - go for the S97, if you look at the "Secrets Tests" on hometheaterhifi . com the s97 scores the same as the Denon 2910 let alone 1910, and for less than 1/2 price :smoke:
