Well, the question is - do you want widescreen?

17 inch WS is much smaller than your current set (which will be about 18.5 inch viewable), but, if used for 4x3 material, properly shaped, is even smaller still.

Virtually all the 20 inch 4x3 sets are very low resolution (640x480) screens. Some say this gives them a CRT-like "look". Others say it degrades the signal. Both statements are true.

You DO want widescreen (IMO) if you intend to watch DVDs, and/or you can satisfactorily receive freeview (which you should then go ahead and do) and/or you have a $ky digital feed to this room. This is more future proof.

To maintain approximately the same screen height (which is the better measure of "size") you should go for 22 inch widescreen.

I too am looking for an LCD TV for the bedroom to replace my 15" portable. I tried the Sony 23" model but found it a bit too overpowering for the bedroom.
The 17" on the other hand looks a little too small and is not much of a step up from what I already have.
When reading a monthly magazine yesterday I came accross the KLVS19A10 (23" model shown but comes in 19".Theres a PDF manual on the site) which is soon to be released in UK. I might be wrong but I've never come accross a 19" widescreen LCD TV before so I think this could be the perfect one for me. According to the spec and the magazine its also HDMI compatible.

Dell launched the W1900 a few months ago, which is 19" widescreen and has DVI-HDCP. Specs are pretty decent apart from the 25ms response time.
