It's long been mooted that DVD-R would be unable to reach 16x speeds (which is regarded by most in the industry as the maximum for DVD burner). However it seems this is no longer the case:

Therefore it now seems quite likely that DVD-R and DVD+R should all reach 16x speed around the same time.

    Hi

I posted this elsewhere as well. Ever since the dawn of +R, the propaganda machines and + fanboys have been telling everyone that DVD-R can never achieve fast speeds due to is "inferior addressing" system. It was always a load of rubbish and now proven, thank goodness Fuji didn't listen to those people :)

    Regards

Lets wait till we see it hit the streets before we see whether it actually works outside the lab. DVD+R will be there first we already know the technology will work.
