16:9 Mode Over Squeezed Vertically on Sony 4:3 TV

When ever I've used the 16:9 Anamorphic mode on my aging Sony 4:3 KV-S2952U when display has always been over squeezed vertically (so it's nearer to 16:8). I know this is a problem effecting many Sony TVs and I've seen some instructions regarding adjustments in the service menu regarding adjusting ASP or ASP1.

This TV doesn't seem to have this setting so does anyone know how I can improve the aspect ratio on this model?

I'm still searching for a solution to this as I like to record in my freeview DVD-Recorder in anamorphic widescreen. All the settings I can find are for 4:3 mode. Anyone have any ideas?

Maybe it's one of those things that can't be adjusted else sony would have done it properly in the first place. ;)
