Can anyone tell me wether I can get smaller LCDs with built in freeview tuners?

I'm looking at adding a 15" LCD to the kitchen, and replacing an old Sony 21" CRT + Nokia Ondigital box in the playroom/study with something of similiar size.

I've done searches, and bought What Video & Widescreen mag, but it doesn't list what TV's have a digital tuner built in!

    cheers,

    greg

    great thanks guys.

From digging around I've found a JVC and Toshiba 17" that do it, but both are > £400.

Trouble is the Argos one doesn't appear to be in stock anywhere remotely near me :(

    regards,

    greg

I'll ask but it's probably too early to say. LCD prices change too quickly to predict that far ahead at the moment.

thanks Gary, and Nick, would be interested to hear what you think of it.

Is it a sign that most new LCDs will have IDTV going forwards?

    regards,

    greg

Apart from the smallest models, yes. The switchover campaigns run by the Government and the BBC will mean that it will be increasingly difficult to sell non-digital products.

I think the Government should legislate to make sure that all new TVs should have an integrated digital tuner, but I doubt they will.

Have you received your Tosh yet ?
Thinking of getting one of these myself and would be interested in your views, expecially on picture quality.
Also what was the service like from Xpresstek ?

    I've found a JVC LT-20E50SJ, for £339 at DigitalDirect - £350 delivered.

    Seems pretty reasonable to me.

edit - looking at it again it states it is a digital tuner, is this feeview type digital tuner, or an analogue tuner that's digitally controlled

After all Xpresstek were out of stock

Finding it hard to find one at a good price and Toshiba have cancelled the 17" 56 model. May buy a Toshiba 20WLT56 instead.

I looked at a 17WLT46 in Knight & Lee and despite the aerial being shared among many sets I thought the PQ was very good - didn't check what it was like for Football though.

That's the standard 20" 4:3 set that's been around for a few months. As you suspect, it doesn't have a DTT tuner.

The LT-20DA6 that I mentioned earlier is widescreen with a DTT tuner.

I've just received a sample for evaluation. It will be on sale in a few weeks.

I saw a Toshiba 17WLT46 in a shop over the weekend, looked great, but seems to be about £500 at the moment, which is a touch expensive in my book!

Anyone found it closer to £400 anywhere?

    regards,

    Greg

As I said Greg, supply seems to be running low with the 17WLT46, hence why I'm thinking of the 20WLT56 as its cheaper than the old 17" model.

    Hi Nick,

Yup guy in shop said the 20wlt56 will be same price as 17, but that he could still get 17's, shame he wanted £529 for it!!!

    regards,

    Greg

Dunt make sence when you can buy the 17WL46 (non freeview) for £350. Does it really justify another £180 for the freeview tuner. I could get 6 of the Sagem boxes from Argos for that !

where can you get the 17wl46 from for £350, as you can say, if I can get it for that, then not much point paying extra!

    regards,

Thanks for the link although I think I'll probably pay the extra £30 for the newer 20" 56 model. A tenner an inch isn't too shabby

I also finally took the plunge on a Humax (just as the Wharfedale allegedly came back into stock at Argos, grrr.)

Actually I'm a lot more impressed than I thought I would be, picture quality is on a par with the Panny, it's very easy to use and with a considerable amount of tweakability, makes a pretty decent stab at being a PC monitor also, though I doubt I'd use it for photo editing it has an excellent contrast range with good shadow detail and less motion blur than the 25 ms suggests.

Sound is a bit thin though. The picture quality hold up well horizontally but there's a limited range vertically, from below axis it darkens up somewhat and from above axis it becomes rather thin and grainy, however it tilts easily.

Much more impressed than I expected, as a veteran CRT-lover, some of the current LCD screens are becoming quite watchable, though with different good and bad points.

    Got mine from Scan

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=182050

arrived the following day after ordering

so what do you think of yours?

I also want an LCD for the bedroom - and whilst I was initially tempted by the Sharp LC17SH1E which is available now - I have since seen that the Toshiba 20WLT56 will be available for a bit over £100 more....

Although no-one seems to be stocking the Toshiba yet, even though it's certainly listed on the Toshiba website.

Does anyone have it in stock at all, or does anyone know where I might see one working ?
